These two numbers, and their relationship to each other, determine whether the ball draws, fades, or flies straight. Swing path is measured in degrees relative to the target line. Positive numbers mean your club is moving from inside the target line to outside it at impact (in-to-out). Negative numbers mean the club is moving from outside the target line to inside it (out-to-in). Face angle is measured in degrees relative to the target line at impact. Positive means open to target. Negative means closed to target. The ball starts close to where the face points and curves away from the swing path. If your face is 2 degrees open to the target and your path is 4 degrees out-to-in, the ball starts slightly right of target (where the face points) and curves further right (away from the out-to-in path). Only move on when you hit the data target, not just when the ball shape looks right on screen. The data target and the visual result should align. If they do not, your simulator may need calibration, or the visual representation is not reflecting your actual ball flight accurately. After achieving the draw target, switch to ten consecutive fades with path between -2 and -4 and face appropriately open to path. Finish with five straight shots. Straight shots require the most precise relationship between path and face, making them a good indicator of overall control. Shot shape drills on the course: once you can produce reliable shapes on the simulator, test them on a course round. Before each shot, name the shape you intend to play. After the shot, compare intent to result. If you intended a draw and hit a fade, return to the simulator to identify which variable was off.
